The Fort McMurray Catholic Board of Education serves over 4,300 students in nine schools. Schools offer a wide range of programming geared towards meeting the academic, cultural and spiritual needs of our community.
Instruction is primarily in English. French Immersion programs are provided at Ecole St. Paul School French Immersion Centre (K - 8) and at Father Mercredi Community High School (Grades 9 - 12). A wide range of sports, social, cultural, fine arts, spiritual and leadership programs are available.
Part of the Public Education System of Alberta, Catholic Schools offer a faith-based learning environment to students of any background and a level of instruction geared toward the highest academic standards.
Before and after school programs (Out of school care) are provided at four Catholic Schools (Father Turcotte, Sister Mary Phillips, Father Beauregard and St. Gabriel Schools)
Fort McMurray Catholic Schools welcome members of all faith
communities
interested to have their children educated in an environment permeated
with the teachings of the Catholic Christian Faith. Parents of
students that are not catholic will
be required to meet the Principal of their school when registering to
discuss these expectations. Parents must respect the freedom of
Catholic Schools to openly study, practice and celebrate their
Christian Catholic Faith.

Premiers Pas Program Registration Information
The Premiers Pas Program at Ecole St. Paul School is designed for pre-kindergarten aged children. A language-focused approach and age appropriate activities are provided. The focus of this program is to expose students to the French language and culture through designed play activities. It is an educational morning program to develop children’s cognitive, language, fine/gross motor and social skills.
Qualifying children must be 3 years old by March 1, 2010. Younger children may be accepted after September 17 at the discretion of the program coordinators. However, students who have been identified as a special need, Program Unit Funded (PUF), will be redirected towards the Early Entry Preschool English Program. Children should be toilet trained upon entry into the program. Special considerations may be provided if needed.
The Premiers Pas Program is a 4 day morning program following the regular school calendar. All school holidays, such as Christmas and Spring breaks, apply to the Premiers Pas program as they do for the other children in the school system. Notices will be sent out to parents in advance where there are no classes.
Costs associated with the program are covered by the School Jurisdiction and Mild/Moderate Disability Program Funding through Alberta Education. There is a nominal materials fee ($60.00 per year) for the program. Parents of all Premiers Pas children should provide their child with: • a backpack; • a daily healthy snack; • indoor running shoes; • various materials from the teacher supply list.
To register you child, please contact Lois Potvin-Gibson or Nicole Hudon at Ecole St. Paul School. 780.799.5760<
